We are so pleased to report that, with the help of our State Rep Jeanette Mott Oxford, we have a bill drafted to close the loophole that created the insurance saga we experienced when we brought Olive home: House Bill 611. Given the current political makeup of the state of Missouri, we think it prudent to give fate a little push and send some kind and prodding words to the folks who are now able to help us.
So, we would greatly appreciate you sending a quick email or letter to the following Missouri State Rep Wilson, encouraging him to act on our behalf, and in the interest of adoptive families state-wide. Representative Kevin Wilson chairs the Special Committee on Health Insurance, and is able to move our bill forward towards a vote, or of course he could choose to ignore it, essentially killing the bill. On behalf of adoptive families throughout the State of Missouri, we would like to urge you to offer a hearing in the Special Committee on Health Insurance for House Bill 611 at your earliest convenience. The insurance law as it currently stands in Missouri contains a loophole for insurers who are legally based in other states, allowing them to deliberately circumvent State Insurance Statutes and create their own rules regarding who they will and will not insure. House Bill 611 closes that loophole and provides peace of mind and transparency to adoptive families when insuring their children.
