Monkeys in Trouble

Posted in crafts, monkeys on 13 December 2008 by saintlouisfricks

New law will jeopardize crafters nationwide, making handmade toys (like my sock monkeys) and other children’s products illegal. Get the sad story here. This means independent crafters like yours truly are in danger of going out of business. And kids are in danger of being subjected to mass-produced toys and clothing for all time, with no options of handmade items. Unless, of course, all of you want to hand-make your kids’ wardrobes and toy chests.

How can you help? Use this sample letter, complete it appropriately, and send it to your representative.

You can also sign a petition.

Special thanks to Christine, from whom I nabbed all these links after reading the story I linked above.

Grab a towel…

Posted in crafts on 18 September 2008 by saintlouisfricks

… to mop up the drool. Look at my new sewin’ machine!!!

It’s a 1950’s Singer Rocketeer Model 500-A and it’s a beaut!

It’s complete with the original attachments, and in its walnut cabinet with the stool too!

It is a Cam machine which makes a variety of pattern stitches along with a multitude of optional stitches by using the pattern selector. It is a drop in bobbin and it can accept a twin needle, which means you can sew 2 threads in at one time. Ahhh…

It has been professionally looked over and repaired, oiled and lubed, making it ready to sew anything my heart desires.

The sweetest part is that it is operated by a knee press against the foot pedal, all of which is original! I LOOOOVE the knee press.

It’s a collectible machine that works amazingly well – this baby’s a tank! And I love it already!!!

I think I might strip and refinish the desk – the previous owner was a smoker so it smells bad. Plus the finish needs a little love anyway. Anyone wanna help me strip?

;)

Tee hee. I’m so mature.
